While we won’t have any completely new games at Game Market 2026 Autumn, we have prepared and released a new English version of the rules for SHIN-BUN-OH. Its English title is a direct translation of the Japanese title: NEWSPAPER KING.

NEWSPAPER KING is not a particularly language-dependent game, although it does contain quite a bit of flavor text. However, some of the game’s key elements—including the Reporter cards and the Editorial Plan cards, which include set-collection themes and other information—need to be translated. In addition, while the overall rules are fairly simple, some procedures, such as how players reveal their cards, can take a little getting used to.

At Game Market 2026 Spring, where we first released SHIN-BUN-OH, we had quite a few visitors from overseas at our booth. However, because of the language barrier and the complexity of some of the game’s procedures, it was difficult to fully explain what makes the game fun.

That is the main reason we decided to translate SHIN-BUN-OH into English: we simply wanted foreign players visiting our booth to be able to experience what makes the game appealing.

One of the biggest challenges in translating the game was deciding how to translate the names of the various cards. Some of the cards already had English names printed on their backs. However, this was not originally done with foreign players in mind—we simply felt that English suited the atmosphere of the artwork better.

We considered using translations that differed from the names printed on the backs, but we thought that would only cause confusion. In the end, we decided to keep the original names.

Since NEWSPAPER KING is inspired by a Japanese newspaper company, I chose to prioritize conveying that Japanese setting and atmosphere rather than strictly following natural English grammar.

In any case, I think we’ve removed much of the language barrier, and nothing would make me happier than seeing more people enjoy NEWSPAPER KING.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all at Game Market 2026 Autumn!
